Planning for the Future

"See that the fields are white for harvest." ~ John 4:35

God is Moving Among Us

About a decade ago, we recognized our congregation was at a crossroads.
We had very few families with small children and none with teens.
Without the next generation of members and leaders, it looked like our future might last about 15 years.

We began to cry out to God.

We stood in a circle on Sunday evenings, held hands, and prayed that God would grow His church.
At first, there were a 12.  We could fit in the small space between the front pew and the pulpit.
Within a few months, our circle wrapped around the room as we approached 60, then 80.

"Pastor, what's your plan?"

One of our senior saints, a deacon, asked Pastor Keith Tillman that question not long after we had called him to lead a revitalization effort.  God was reviving us, and it was clear we were on course to out-grow our current building.  We entered into a time of prayer and fasting and came out with a  team of members who were consecrated for the task of Planning for the Future.

And then a pandemic happened.

Covid forced us to worship and disciple in ways that were new to us, but we never skipped a week.
And as the sanctuary sat empty while we gathered virtually, we renovated our worship center to accommodate a new permanent addition - video livestreaming.

Would we recover?

The names and faces have changed since pre-Covid, but yes, we are no longer a revitalization.
God has moved in the hearts of many to bring worshipers to our weekly gatherings, and we are a growing church.
Now we find ourselves nearly bursting at the seams again.

Phase One: a Bridge to the Future

In 2022, we began renovation projects to our current facilities to accommodate more families as God adds to our membership.
Updates to our worship center include a complete stage and baptistry renovation, new lighting, new sound system, and the addition of a nursing mother's lounge. The kitchen and fellowship hall facelift is complete with a video feed from the sanctuary for Sundays when attendance exceeds 140 worshipers. Our parking lot has been expanded and restriped for easier navigation.
A bright, colorful playground for preschoolers sits just outside our children's hall classrooms.

Phase Two and Beyond: Positioned for Growth

PHASE II: If the Lord wills it, and He adds to our numbers significantly over the next 5 years, we hope to build a two-story multipurpose facility that can be configured to be a house of worship on Sundays and accommodate discipleship and fellowship activities during the week. The new building will sit parallel to our current sanctuary and create a courtyard to shelter the preschool playground. The hillside behind this building will be paved for parking with a new entrance off Old Clinton Pike.

The National Association of REALTORS® places Knoxville on its top ten list of housing hot spots. New construction is happening all around us, with thousands of homes being built within a two-mile radius of our campus. By faith, we believe that God has planted us here in anticipation of springing up community around us.

PHASE III: If further construction is needed, our master plan provides for a 350 seat worship center and grand lobby that connects all the buildings with continuity and easy access.
Design features include sheltered passenger drop-offs near the children's wing and senior adult classrooms. Our current sanctuary will not be forgotten or left to sit dormant.
We plan to reconfigure that interior space to optimize discipleship activities for our next generation of leaders.
